END OF FIRST SEMESTER 2009/2010 SESSION: ISSUES ARISING
Calvary greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Adjustment of 2009/2010 University Calendar
The first semester of 2009/2010 session was scheduled to end on 13th February, 2010 and the commencement of the second semester is to have been 8th March, 2010. For various reasons, it became necessary to adjust the University calendar. The reasons for the adjustment include late registration of a good number of 100 and 200 level students and late return of 400 level students in the College of Natural Sciences, from their industrial training attachment. The unit course system that the University has adopted, makes it possible, for examinations to cut across Colleges, Departments and levels. In order to harmonize all examinations and avoid duplicating or even triplicating examination questions within the same semester, for different groups of students, the Senate decided to shift the first semester examinations from 1st February, 2010 to 1st March, 2010. The first semester break for 100 and 200 level students, who commenced the first semester in October/November, 2009; 300 and 400 level students ( except 400 level students in the College of Natural Sciences), has been adjusted to commence on Friday, 5th February, 2010 ( instead of 13th February, 2010). Other students in 100 and 200 levels who registered late and 400 level students in the College of Natural Sciences, who arrived late in the semester from their industrial attachment, would remain on Campus until 20th February, 2010 when they too, will take a short break. All students, irrespective of College or level, are expected back on campus on 25th February, 2010 to prepare for the first semester examinations which begin on 1st March, 2010.
Parents’ Forum
Consequent on the above adjustment of the University calendar, the Parents’ Forum will now hold on Saturday, 6th March, 2010 at 11.00 a.m. Our students have been directed to inform their parents by phone of the change of date. In view of the construction work, which has begun on the University Auditorium site, the Forum will now meet in the Main Auditorium of the CAC Miracle Camp, opposite the Academic Buildings.
All parents are expected to attend.
Accreditation Exercise.
The accreditation exercise, which had to be rescheduled because of the Special Convocation held in October, 2010, will now commence on Monday, 21st March, 2010. The University has consolidated its preparedness in terms of recruitment of additional quality staff and provision of required facilities to meet NUC requirements. We are optimistic of full accreditation of all our programmes.
Payment of Fees
In our letter of 14th December, 2009, we indicated that full fees must be paid on or before 8th March, 2010, the earlier scheduled date for resumption for the second semester. This deadline still stands.
However, in view of the fact that the first semester examinations will now begin on 1st March, 2010, it is advisable for parents to pay all fees before 1st March, 2010. Since 8th March, 2010 falls within the examination period, it will not be auspicious to send students out in the middle of examination for default in payment of fees.
Endowment Fund
As earlier indicated, parents are expected to pay N10, 000.00 per child to the Parents Forum Endowment Fund, before such child can be registered for the second semester. Registration for second semester courses will take place on 15th to 16th March, 2010, immediately after the first semester examinations. There will be no other break.
The Parents’ Forum Endowment Fund account number into which the N10, 000.00 should be paid is: First Bank Plc A/c No. 5742050000897. The account name is JABU Parents Forum Endowment Fund Account.
E-mail Address of Parents
Parents are reminded that, for ease of communication, they should send their e-mail addresses to the Registrar’s e-mail address indicated on top of this letter. This will eliminate the usual complaint that letters sent to parents were delivered late. Parents are also advised to visit the University website regularly, for up to date information about the University.
We thank you for your cooperation and wish you safe journey to the Campus on Saturday, 6th March, 2010.
Yours sincerely
Barr. Wale Aderibigbe
