ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A VICE CHANCELLOR

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor at Joseph Ayo Babalola University.

 

THE UNIVERSITY

Joseph Ayo Babalola University, established by Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, was granted a licence by the Federal Government of Nigeria to operate as a private university in April, 2006 and it commenced academic activities in October, 2006.  The University currently operates 23 departments in seven Colleges, namely: Colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, Postgraduates Studies and Centre for Distance Learning.

 

The University graduated its first set of students in October, 2010 after a successful accreditation exercise.

 

LOCATION

By divine injunction, Joseph Ayo Babalola University is located at Ikeji Arakeji where the great Apostle and revivalist received his call.  Ikeji Arakeji is located in Osun State of Nigeria, along Ilesa-Akure Road.

 

VISION

Joseph Ayo Babalola University is a private University of international standard; it is noted for its clear and unique focus as well as specialized programmes.  The University is distinguishing itself within the Nigerian University community for intellectual break-through and relevance in national development.

 

MISSION

Joseph Ayo Babalola University provides teaching, research and service that would encourage learning and stimulate academic exchange at both national and international fora.

 

PHILOSOPHY

Taking cognizance of the unacceptably high rate of unemployment of university graduates in the country, Joseph Ayo Babalola University gives all its graduates, the capacity for self employment, thereby making them self reliant and self sustaining, in addition to turning them into an effective army of human capital for the nation and vanguard in the war against societal ills.

 

Joseph Ayo Babalola University is determined not only to disseminate available knowledge to its students but to develop their intellect and enquiring minds which would lead to serious research activities in all aspects of knowledge, general, economic, political, scientific and technological, so as to help Nigeria out of the scourge of under-development and place her within the comity of advanced countries.

 

 

 

 

Joseph Ayo Babalola University encourages cooperation with other universities within and outside the country, particularly with its counterparts in advanced countries of the world, through student and staff exchange programmes.

 

The University will exploit the benefit of globalization, especially in the area of information communication technology, so as to keep abreast of the latest developments in science and technology, in order to break the shackle of under-development.

 

OUR UNIQUENESS

The University provides intensive entrepreneurship programme for all its students and it is the first University in Nigeria offering a degree programme in Entrepreneurship.  The University lays emphasis on moral and religious upbringing.

 

THE POSITION

The Vice Chancellor has the general function of directing the activities of the University and is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University.  He is also the ex-officio Chairman of Senate.

 

THE CANDIDATE

The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a good University education with proven ability as manager of human and material resources.  In addition, he must:

 

  • be a distinguished scholar of the rank of professor with ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for the University;
  • provide spiritual leadership among staff and students in a faith based University with the objective of producing morally sound graduates ready to render Godly service;
  • command the respect of both the national and international academic communities;
  • have good interpersonal relationship and ability to forge the same among students, staff and the general public;
  • have a feasible plan for the development of the University in line with the set vision, mission and philosophy of the University;
  • possess the drive and ability to attract external funding and creativity to generate internal revenue;
  • possess ability to initiate and strengthen linkages with other Universities, national and international bodies and agencies;
  • be in excellent physical and mental health.

Note: The candidate must provide a list of local and international grants obtained in the last two years.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of (5) years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.

 

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Each application should be made in twenty (20) copies and be accompanied by 20 copies of candidate’s credentials and curriculum vitae duly signed and dated.  The curriculum vitae should be presented in the following order:

 

 

  1. Name in full (surname first and in capitals);
  2. Place and date of birth;
  3. State of origin and nationality;
  4. Marital status; number and ages of children;
  5. Religion and denomination
  6. Current postal/contact addresses (with phone number(s) and e-mail address);
  7. Permanent address;
  8. Institutions attended with dates;
  9. Educational qualifications with dates;
  10. Professional qualifications with dates;
  11. Membership of professional bodies;
  12. Distinctions and awards with dates;
  13. Statement of work experience including full details of former and present posts;
  14. Postgraduate supervision;
  15. Academic related services to the nation and the University system;
  16. Important academic conferences/workshops/courses attended with dates;
  17. Publications (thesis, books, monographs and published articles);
  18. Technical reports;
  19. Present employment status, salary and employer;
  20. Extra curricular activities;
  21. Names and addresses of 3 referees (one of whom must be in candidate’s field of study).

 

Each referee should be contacted by the applicant to forward direct to the Chairman, Board of Trustees, a confidential report on the candidate’s character, academic and managerial abilities in a properly sealed envelope marked: POST OF VICE CHANCELLOR: REFEREE’S REPORT at the top left hand corner of the envelope.  Each application must be accompanied by 20 copies of statement of the candidate’s vision for the University.

 

All applications, supporting documents and referees’ reports must be submitted by hand under confidential cover, or through courier delivery to:
