DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

1.         PHILOSOPHY 
            We desire to promote to its utmost English Language  Linguistics and Communicative  competencies so that products of our department would be role models in English use and usage apart from their enhancing the ultimate emergence of Nigerian Standard English. To enhance English Language competence, we intend to empower our products with English Language awareness and the pedagogic competences to teach English Language.

            It is our desire that our products will not only excel in all aspects of Literature in English but will also be empowered with critical and creative skills to promote literature studies in all levels of our school system.

2.         OBJECTIVES
            The department will produce graduates who will have the under mentioned competencies

         English Language Competence: This is to enhance their linguistic and communicative competencies.

          English Language and Awareness: English Language awareness will confer on the graduates the ability to reason intellectually on all aspects of English Grammar and System.

         Pedagogic Competence: Every graduate of this Department is expected to be able to plan, prepare, implement, evaluate and renew the English Language curriculum both formally - at the primary and secondary school levels - and non formally.

         Excellence in Literature in English: We intend to produce graduates who will not only excel in every facet of Literature in English but will also be invaluable touchstones that can enhance Literature Studies in schools and colleges.
